Google Partners with Associated Press to Integrate Real-Time News into Gemini App

Google has announced a new partnership with the Associated Press to enhance the Gemini app by incorporating a real-time news feed. This agreement is designed to deliver more timely and accurate information to users, improving their experience with the app. The deal builds on Google’s existing collaboration with the AP, which has long supported its traditional search services.

The integration of the AP’s content into the Gemini app allows Google to further enhance its generative AI tools by providing access to reliable, up-to-date news. Google emphasized the importance of the AP’s nonpartisan journalism, which aligns with the company’s efforts to deliver high-quality, accurate information through its AI-driven services.

This move highlights Google’s ongoing commitment to refining its artificial intelligence systems and staying competitive in an increasingly crowded digital landscape. By bringing in real-time news, the partnership offers users more relevant and timely content within the Gemini app. With the AP’s expertise in news gathering and reporting, the collaboration helps Google continue to evolve its AI products in a way that prioritizes accurate, trustworthy information.

As Google integrates real-time news from the AP, it aims to provide a more enriched content experience for its users, positioning the Gemini app as a valuable tool for those seeking up-to-the-minute updates and insights.

ChatGPT Expands With New Task-Scheduling Feature

OpenAI has rolled out a beta feature in ChatGPT called "Tasks," designed to bring scheduling capabilities to its platform. This feature allows users to set reminders and plan future actions, marking a shift in the chatbot's functionality toward becoming a more comprehensive digital assistant.

Subscribers on certain plans can now schedule one-time or recurring tasks, such as setting daily notifications, reminders for important dates, or even lighthearted moments like bedtime jokes. The feature integrates directly within chat threads and includes a dedicated section for managing and modifying tasks, accessible through the web interface. Notifications will keep users updated on completed tasks, but there is a limit of 10 active tasks at any time.

OpenAI is keeping Tasks exclusive to paid plans for now, with no indication of when it might expand to free users. This move aligns with the company's broader strategy of monetizing its AI technology through premium offerings. While similar features exist in traditional digital assistants, this development highlights OpenAI's push to expand ChatGPT's capabilities beyond real-time interactions into proactive assistance.

As this feature remains in beta, reliability and accuracy will be closely watched. For those interested, Tasks can be activated in the model picker under “4o with scheduled tasks,” offering a chance to explore this new addition.

Meta Plans Workforce Reduction Focused on Performance

Meta Platforms is reportedly implementing a plan to reduce its workforce by about 5%, targeting employees who fall below performance expectations. This initiative is part of the company's effort to streamline operations and enhance productivity.

The workforce adjustments will be based on performance evaluations, marking a shift toward more stringent management standards. Employees identified as underperforming will be transitioned out of the company, with plans to fill those roles later in the year. Meta has indicated that those affected will receive severance packages as part of the process.

The company has outlined its goal of achieving "non-regrettable" attrition, with a target of 10% by the end of the current performance cycle, half of which will come from these workforce reductions. With over 67,000 employees reported at the end of last year, the changes could impact more than 3,000 positions.

This move reflects a growing trend among major tech companies to optimize resources amid changing industry dynamics. By emphasizing performance-based adjustments, Meta aims to position itself for greater efficiency and long-term growth. The full impact of this strategy will unfold as the company moves forward with its planned changes.

Recent Tech Movers

Lyft (LYFT) is only marginally up from its position last year, but the company’s been making big moves by increasing its reach to bike and scooter sharing as well as looking into self-driving technology. It’s also taking a close look at costs to customers in hopes of undercutting the competition and boosting its market share.

Bandwidth (BAND) is a communications company with some nice overall growth heading into 2025. Its financials look solid, and increased demand for business services could put the company on a fast track for more gains.

Tesla (TSLA) stands to gain a lot from the new Trump administration and a push toward American companies. Shares are already up 85% from last year, but we anticipate much more on the horizon.

Air Travel

Electric aviation is no longer a dream—it’s becoming a reality, and one $4 NYSE-listed stock is leading the way.

Just as Tesla transformed ground transportation, this company is revolutionizing air travel with cutting-edge technology and a bold vision for a cleaner, greener future.

Backed by strong partnerships and poised to capitalize on the soaring demand for electric flight, this stock is one to watch.

Don’t Overlook This Tech Stock

Intel (INTC) has been in the dumps since experiencing its worst crash in history this past August. The news seemed like a wake-up call for its executive staff, who were riding on the coattails of its former successes.

The months that followed sparked controversy over whether the company would ever rebound, with delays and increasing competition fueling that fire.

This month, Intel surprised many with the launch of its new line of processors designed to compete with AMD, scooping up a partnership with Amazon Web Services for some custom offerings.

Cost-cutting measures and a move to spin off its venture capital arm all indicate initiatives to streamline further, and we’re optimistic a share price turnaround is in the company’s near future.
