The Insurance Software Play Setting Up For A November Move
The unloved software winner hiding in plain sight while the herd chases something else
Everyone's crowding into the AI hyperscalers. Chip names, GPU cloud plays, data center REITs, take your pick. Meanwhile, one of the cleanest cloud-transition stories in enterprise software just got knocked down on earnings, and barely anyone's talking about it.

Central banks have been accumulating gold while many Americans are asking the same question: what happens to retirement savings if the dollar keeps losing purchasing power?
A free new briefing looks at why gold has returned to the spotlight, what investors learned from the monetary changes of the 1970s, and where physical gold may fit in a long-term retirement plan.
It also explains one way eligible retirement savings can potentially be repositioned without an immediate tax hit.

Guidewire Software (NYSE: GWRE) is the software backbone for property and casualty insurers worldwide. Its Connections user conference hits in November, then fiscal Q1 2027 earnings drop in early December. One of the better forward setups you'll find on my radar right now.
Action: Accumulate shares in the $134–$144 zone ahead of Guidewire Connections in November and the fiscal Q1 2027 print in early December.

What Just Happened
Guidewire wrapped fiscal 2026 in late August/early September with its Q4 report, continuing its multi-year march from license revenue to a fully subscription cloud model.
Cloud ARR growth has kept compounding for several quarters, and subscription revenue is now the dominant contributor to the top line you're tracking.
But the print isn't the story. What matters is what the stock did afterward. Shares dropped roughly 25–30% following the September 3 earnings release, falling from around $202 to the $140–$161 range as money rotated back into AI infrastructure.
That selloff is your entry window. Fundamentals didn't change; the story just got punished on rotation.

Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Jensen Huang are all quietly pouring money into the exact same hidden AI sector.
It has nothing to do with microchips or basic software, but experts predict a massive $24 trillion wave.

What The Business Actually Does
Guidewire sells the operating system for P&C insurance carriers. Its core InsuranceSuite handles the three jobs every P&C insurer has to do: write policies (PolicyCenter), handle claims (ClaimCenter), and manage billing (BillingCenter).
Guidewire Cloud Platform stitches it all together in a modern, subscription-based deployment you can actually rely on.
Why care? P&C insurance is one of the last major financial verticals still running on ancient mainframe systems. Every carrier has to modernize eventually, and Guidewire is the default choice for mid-market and large carriers.
There isn't a serious second option at scale. That's the moat you're buying, and it's why cloud ARR keeps compounding quarter after quarter, so track that ARR line every print.
Action: Start a starter position now to get exposure before Connections. Track Q1 2027 cloud ARR growth and net new ACV in the December print for signs of acceleration.

Why The Market Cares Again
Cloud migration is finally hitting scale. Guidewire spent five years convincing carriers to move to the cloud, and that work is now paying off, with cloud deals making up the majority of new business.
Once a carrier is on Guidewire Cloud, they're locked in for a decade or more. That's the sticky, predictable, expanding revenue you want to own.
The AI product story is real. Guidewire has been layering AI tools onto its platform, from claims triage to underwriting automation. Insurers are among the most AI-motivated customers in software because a 1% improvement in loss ratios is worth billions.
Mark Connections in November on your calendar and look for concrete AI announcements there.
International wins keep stacking. The UK, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific regions have been steady contributors, with several large carrier wins over the past 18 months. You're looking at a $20 billion-plus global TAM story, not just a domestic one.
Action: Watch for AI SKUs to be broken out separately from base subscription pricing. That's the tell that AI is contributing to ARR, not just marketing.

What The Financials Are Signaling
Cloud ARR growth has printed solid year-over-year gains in recent quarters, with management guiding for continued acceleration into fiscal 2027. That's the compounder engine.
Subscription gross margin has been climbing steadily as cloud infrastructure hits scale. Every point of margin here drops to the bottom line, and you should watch this as the primary lever for earnings upside over the next 24 months.
Free cash flow is inflecting. The transition from license to subscription always compresses cash flow before it expands it. Guidewire is past the compression stage. You're seeing FCF turn a corner, and it should accelerate as more of the base runs on cloud.

Bear Case
It's not cheap. Guidewire trades at a premium multiple on both sales and forward earnings. That's the price of a dominant vertical software franchise, but the stock needs to keep delivering on cloud ARR growth to justify the multiple. Any deceleration and the multiple compresses fast.
Insurance industry slowdown. If P&C carriers pull back on IT spend due to loss ratio pressure or a hard market cycle inflection, your new deal timing slips right. Guidewire's revenue is durable, not immune.
Cloud transition timing slippage. Big cloud migrations can slip a quarter or two, and even small timing gaps show up in ARR guidance. Any deceleration in cloud ARR growth would hit the multiple immediately.
Multiple compression in high-multiple software. If rates stay higher for longer and money rotates further out of high-multiple SaaS, Guidewire gets caught in that same rotation regardless of its own numbers.
Action: Hedge with broader software exposure via a name like monday.com (NASDAQ: MNDY) or an enterprise SaaS ETF to buffer against a sector rotation.
Monday.com just reported that customers with over $100,000 in annual recurring revenue grew 37% year over year to 2,019 by Q2 2026, and the company repurchased about 7.27 million shares for roughly $553 million while the stock was under pressure, giving you a second software beta that is not tied to Guidewire's insurance vertical.
Size the GWRE position accordingly.

What Needs To Happen Next
Guidewire Connections in November. The company's flagship user conference typically brings major cloud win announcements, product roadmap reveals, and multi-year financial targets. Historically, GWRE moves 5%–10% around Connections.
Fiscal Q1 2027 earnings in early December. The first print of the new fiscal year sets the tone. A strong cloud ARR beat with reaffirmed or raised full-year guidance would confirm the reacceleration thesis.
Meaningful AI product monetization. Watch for AI SKUs to be priced separately and start contributing to ARR. That's the next leg of the growth story beyond the cloud migration itself.
Action: Build the $134–$144 range in thirds. Don't chase if it runs into Connections. If it dips below the low end of the range on a market pullback, that's your add zone.

The Dominant P&C Software Franchise Sets Up A Rare Early Entry
Guidewire is the dominant software platform for P&C insurance, and it's in the meat of a cloud transition compounding ARR faster than most people realize.
The stock got sold off hard since earnings while attention chases AI hyperscalers. A November user conference and a December earnings print sit right in front of you as dated, concrete catalysts.
This is what early entry looks like: buy the post-earnings dislocation, get paid on the reveal.

Setup Scorecard
Entry Zone: $134–$144
Target: $162
Stop Loss: Reassess on a close below the $134 entry-zone low
Catalyst Timeline: Guidewire Connections user conference (November 2026), fiscal Q1 2027 earnings (early December 2026), ongoing carrier cloud migration announcements
Confidence Level: Medium-High. The cloud transition story is proven, the catalysts are dated and concrete, and the post-earnings selloff gives you real early entry ahead of a known event.
