The AI Infrastructure Report That Could Reset This Whole Stock

An AI infrastructure name with an $8.5B market cap prints earnings Monday, and one analyst is calling for 155% upside from here.

A former bitcoin miner turned AI data center operator reports its biggest earnings of the year on Monday.

The Street has been rerating this thing in real time.

The biggest catalyst is still ahead of us, and the setup into the print is tight.

Whitney Tilson shocked the nation on 60 Minutes when he accused a major company of poisoning its customers.

The investigation won an Emmy and the stock fell nearly 80%.

(He also called the housing crisis and the collapse of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers).

Now, he's releasing his next big story.

He says a dangerous pattern is forming, and most Americans have no idea how exposed they really are.

Everyone is still obsessed with the picks-and-shovels chip names. Meanwhile, the companies actually pouring the concrete, wiring the power, plumbing the cooling, and racking the servers are shaping up to be the next leg of AI infrastructure winners.

One of them reports Monday, July 27. From where I sit, this is exactly the kind of forward-looking setup you want to be sized into BEFORE the print, not chasing after.

Applied Digital (NASDAQ: APLD) is the company to know here, and shares trade around $30.08, market cap sits near $8.5 billion, and a 24/7 Wall St. Piece from last week flagged a Street target implying roughly 155% upside from here.

What Just Happened

APLD is pivoting from a bitcoin hosting shop into a pure-play AI and HPC data center operator. The market is finally waking up to what that transition means for the multiple.

The company has leased and pre-leased data center capacity to hyperscaler and neocloud tenants, moved off crypto revenue toward high-margin GPU hosting, and set up its fiscal fourth quarter as the first clean quarter for the Street to model the new business. The comp everyone reaches for is IREN, which has been through a similar pivot with strong results.

Here's the thing though. This isn't a lottery ticket. It's a real estate and power infrastructure story dressed in AI clothing, and that changes how you value it.

Action: Build a starter position between $27 and $31 ahead of the fiscal Q4 and full-year 2026 earnings release on July 27. Leave room to add on any post-earnings shakeout back toward the mid-$20s.

Artificial intelligence is changing the way companies operate—and one new initiative linked to Elon Musk is attracting attention.

According to a veteran market analyst, the biggest opportunity may not be the household names, but a little-known company supporting the technology behind the scenes.

What the Business Actually Does

Applied Digital designs, builds, and operates digital infrastructure for high-performance computing and AI workloads across North America. In plain English: they build the giant, power-dense data centers that AI training and inference actually run inside.

That matters because AI compute is bottlenecked less by chips and more by megawatts. If you can't get power, land, cooling, and interconnect built out, the H200s and MI450s in the world are just expensive paperweights. APLD sits right in that bottleneck.

Their North Dakota campus is the flagship. Management has been building out capacity that GPU tenants sign multi-year leases against. Long-duration contracts, predictable cash flows, real estate economics with a tech multiple. That's the pitch.

Action: Read the most recent 10-Q before Monday. If you don't understand how the North Dakota campus is contracted, you don't understand the stock.

Why the Market Cares Again

The AI capex arms race just got bigger. Every hyperscaler and every frontier lab is doubling down on infrastructure this year. Microsoft is running AMD Helios racks in Azure. Anthropic committed to up to 2 gigawatts of AMD MI450 GPUs. That kind of demand doesn't fit inside existing data center footprints. Someone has to build the new ones.

The bitcoin hangover is also finally clearing. The market used to price APLD like a levered crypto play, and that's been wrong for a while now. As the full year numbers land, the story shifts to recurring HPC revenue and lease economics, and the comp set changes from CleanSpark and IREN to actual data center REITs. That's a re-rating trigger.

Neocloud tenants are starving for capacity, too. The AWS/Azure/GCP oligopoly can't absorb every AI workload. Neoclouds like CoreWeave, Lambda, and Nebius are scaling fast and need turnkey capacity now. APLD can deliver operational megawatts on a shorter timeline than a hyperscaler build, which makes it exactly the kind of vendor these tenants sign with.

Action: Track any 8-K filings between now and July 27 for pre-earnings tenant announcements. Management has a habit of dropping contract news right before prints.

What the Financials Are Signaling

The critical number Monday isn't the top line. It's the split. Look at how much revenue is coming from HPC hosting versus legacy crypto. If HPC crosses 50% of revenue for the first time, that's your re-rate signal.

Balance sheet firepower matters just as much. What you want to see Monday is management laying out how much capacity they can finance without needing another equity raise. The dilution question is what's kept skeptics on the sideline.

Backlog and contract duration are the third leg. Watch for updated language on contracted lease revenue over the next 3 to 5 years. Even a rough dollar figure attached to signed leases would give the model something concrete to chew on and shrink the discount to book value.

Action: Ignore any headline number Monday until you see the HPC revenue split. That's the print inside the print.

Bear Case

Concentration risk. A meaningful chunk of contracted revenue likely sits with a small number of tenants. If one delays a deployment or pushes out expansion, the model gets ugly quickly.

Power and permitting delays. Data center buildouts run on utility interconnect timelines, which are notoriously slow and getting slower. Any pushback on scheduled megawatt deliveries hits revenue directly.

Dilution overhang. Building data centers costs real money. Any raise, whether equity or convertible, dilutes existing holders. The market has been forgiving on this so far. Don't assume that continues.

Rate sensitivity. Higher-for-longer rates hurt everything capital-intensive. If the 10-year keeps grinding higher on oil-driven inflation fears, financing costs for the next campus get more expensive.

Peer de-rate risk. The stock is being valued on the assumption that HPC hosting margins hold and lease pricing stays firm. If neocloud demand cools even modestly, the multiple compresses fast. IREN and CleanSpark's stumbles show how quickly this crowd can sell off on a soft print.

Action: If you want APLD exposure but the binary event risk feels heavy, pair the position with a hedge in a large-cap AI infrastructure name, or trim size to 50% of your usual pick.

How I'd Frame a Position

If you want exposure ahead of Monday, take a starter position between $27 and $31 and hold back at least half the intended size. Earnings prints on names like this are binary in the short term.

If APLD sells off into the mid-$20s on a mixed print, that's your add zone. A miss doesn't kill the multi-year thesis unless the tenant pipeline breaks. Reassess if it breaks $22.

If you already own it, don't chase up here. Trim into strength above $35 to lock in some of the recent move and let the earnings report set the tone. You can always rebuild size if the setup confirms.

Why This Setup Rewards Patience

Applied Digital is the kind of forward-looking AI infrastructure play the market usually figures out late. Monday's fiscal Q4 and full-year print is the catalyst, and the setup rewards patience over chasing. Buy a starter between $27 and $31, keep dry powder for a post-earnings dip, and let the tenant and financing disclosures do the work. If the transition thesis holds, this is a multi-year story, not a two-week trade.

Setup Scorecard

Entry Zone: $27 to $31

Target: $45 to $55 over 9 to 12 months

Stop Loss: Reassess below $22

Catalyst Timeline: Fiscal Q4 and Full Year 2026 earnings July 27, 2026; new tenant contract announcements expected in Q3; capacity financing update on the earnings call

Confidence Level: Medium. The transition story is real, but binary events like the earnings print and next financing round keep the risk profile elevated.
